Belgian yeasted waffles
A Belgian-style yeasted waffle that will be your new favorite!

- 1 and 1/2 cups warm milk
- 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter melted
- 2-3 Tablespoons maple syrup
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast if you don't have instant yeast, use the same amount of active dry yeast and mix it with the warm milk; allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes until frothy
In a large bowl, mix all of the ingredients together. The dough will not be perfectly smooth.
Cover and allow to rest at room temperature for 1 hour.
You can either make the waffles now or refrigerate them overnight to allow the flavors to develop more. Note that they will taste more "yeasty" if you let the batter rest overnight. Your call on how you'd like them to taste.
Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's directions. Pour the batter into the iron and cook until they are done.
Serve immediately and top with your favorite toppings - fresh fruit, maple syrup, whipped cream, chocolate chips, Nutella...
