Camel Spin Variation

Now that my skating season is over, it’s time to play. And by play, I mean it’s time to work on fun new elements and spin variations. Last summer, my spin coach gave me a new spin to try. It was a camel variation where my shoulder is pointed to the side. I haven’t worked on it much since I was training for my season, but now that my season’s done, it’s time to bring it back.

Here is where I am on this spin.

I obviously need to hold this spin a little bit longer. And my head needs to point up towards the ceiling. But I’m really encouraged because this spin actually isn’t too bad, especially since I’ve barely worked on it.

If it gets strong enough, then perhaps we can include it in my program next year.

That position is really cool, Eva. And I’m really impressed by how much your spin entry has improved: very steady entry edge and good speed. That is very fun to see! Love how you’re taking your spins to a new level!

In Gold ladies freestyle, the motto is “Spin to win.” Most of the jumping elements are pretty equal across all competitors. It’s the spins that differentiate us!
