Opting Out
In the winter, there is typically an all-adult competition that I enter. It’s a great warm-up and precursor for Adult Sectionals in March. I usually enjoy going for the camaraderie and opportunity to skate my program in front of the judges.
This year, I have elected not to compete.
I have too much on my plate, and I don’t need the added stress. Despite friends pushing me and trying to convince me to go, I decided to focus on other things. There are a few personal stressors in my life that are distracting me. If I had opted to compete, my mind would not have been fully there.
Plus, one event costs something crazy like $170, so it’s not worth it to me at this time.
I’m going to focus on settling my mind and redirecting my energy towards Sectionals next month.
Hope you have the time to keep up with pairs.!

I hope so too. It’s really fun but our practice time is limited with all that’s going on in our lives!
Eva, you are wise to decide that another competition is just too much. I’ve always thought that one of the main differences between adult and child skaters (besides their enviably-young bodies) is that for kids, someone else is taking care of life details. I hope things settle down and that skating provides a much-needed break from other worries in life. Take care!

My brain just can’t handle everything that’s going on right now. Adulting is hard! I’m glad I made this decision, but I will certainly miss being with my friends. Thankfully, I’ll see most of them in another month for Sectionals.
