Win By Default

Last weekend, I competed my updated free skate program. I had been feeling very strong and confident leading up to the event. I was on a warmup with 4 Silver women and was the last to skate. I should have taken off my skates and sat in the warmer area of the building, but I didn’t. That was a mistake. By the time it was my turn to skate, my left foot started going numb.
As a result, I rushed my opening spin and then had trouble landing my 3-jump combo and doing my back sit spin. I felt sluggish and did not skate as fast or clean as I am capable. However, I did get my choreo spin called and also got the new choreo sequence confirmed. In addition, I also established a baseline for the season, so I am happy with that.

I was in a good state mentally and just need to keep running the program to make it even stronger and more automatic. The double run-throughs definitely helped with my stamina, so I will use this strategy before the next competition.

There is still a lot to be proud of with this performance. I’ll share the video once I receive it.
