Tweaked Program

A few weeks ago, the Adult Skating Committee within US Figure Skating revised the requirements for singles programs. This impacts me in a few ways:

  • The maximum time limit for my program is now 2:50 (as opposed to 2:40)
  • There is a maximum of two jump combinations (or 1 jump combo and 1 sequence), which was reduced from 3
  • There is a required choreo spin, which is supposed to enhance the music (this is to replace the third spin)
  • Skaters have a choice of executing either a leveled step sequence or choreographic sequence

I had heard rumors about some of these changes a few months ago, so I began working on a choreo spin. My program was already cut to 2:48 (I typically stayed still for 8 seconds so I didn’t get a time penalty), and I was already doing something similar to a choreographic sequence.

However, with the reduction of jump combinations, I had to change things around a bit. I also moved the choreo spin to a different place in the music, so my program layout and element order shifted. The changes aren’t too drastic, but enough that I need to keep running the new program to get used to it.

Earlier this week, I signed up for our home rink competition so I will need to work on my stamina. Send help!
