Jump and Spin Clinic

Earlier this week my bestie and I co-hosted a jump and spin clinic for our rink. We invited world-reknowned coaches, Nick Perna and Kim Ryan-Lewis to share their wisdom with our skaters.

For the first time, we hosted an adults-only clinic on Sunday, with the kids’ clinic the following day. We had about 16 adults participate, and we were pleased with the turnout.

Nick and Kim brought a lot of energy with them, along with fun teaching tools like spin boards, beach balls, and pole harnesses. We received good feedback from the participants after the clinic. On Tuesday, Nick and Kim offered private lessons to those who wanted them.

The photo above is something that I will cherish forever. It is the one and only picture I have of my entire coaching team. Nick helps me with my jumps, Kim is my spin guru, and Olga is my head coach who helps me with my skating skills, choreography, and everything else under the sun. I am so grateful for my team!
Do you work with your jump and spin coaches virtually? I live in an area with very limited coaching options (and not enough ice time to support full-time coaches, which is part of the problem), so I’ve wondered about hiring a virtual coach for specific things like jumps/spins.

Yes – I’ve been working with my jump coach virtually for about 10 years (before COVID) and my spin coach for about 7 years. You might have to check with your skating director to get permission to work with a coach virtually on a freestyle session.
