Wrong Way Pairs Camel Spin

My partner and I were working on our pairs spins one afternoon when one of the ice dancers came to see what was going on. He tried offering us some tips the evening before when our skates were off, but some of us (ahem, me) didn’t quite “get it.”

Graciously, he showed us how to gain some speed when transitioning from one spin position to another. When we shared that we were hoping to execute a camel spin one day, he tried showing us. However, since he is a “righty” spinner, he wasn’t quite able to demonstrate it while spinning clockwise. So, he did the next best thing… he asked me to go counterclosewise so he could explain the alignment needed.

I grabbed this video from LiveBarn, and while the spin itself isn’t too bad, you can see me almost die at the end! Spinning the other direction at a high rate of rotation is absolutely terrifying!
