My First Real Lutz!
I have been avoiding lutzes like the plague. The last time I did one in competition was… maybe 2014? Or 2015? I can’t quite remember, but it was a long time ago. And when I had one in my program, I either got an edge call or a (!) call.
About a decade later, my jump coach decided it was time for me to work on this jump. I guess he’d had enough of my excuses and proclaimed that I would have a correct lutz.
We worked on some progressive exercises to get me used to staying on my outside edge. When those felt OK, he had me move onto the next step. This week, we finally graduated to attempting a baby lutz. Much to his surprise, I was able to do it. I was the proud owner of a baby lutz!
A few more minutes into the lesson, he had me trying a lutz while gliding backwards. I attempted to get my body into the same alignment as the exercises. I was elated when my coach told me that I had just executed a real lutz!
After my lesson, I recorded these two additional attempts. I’m not ready to put these into a program yet, but I am so thrilled to have a correct lutz jump after flutzing for a decade!
