Some Progress in New Equipment
Last week I shared that I was experiencing some pain and discomfort in my new equipment. My adjustment period has been at least 2 months, and it’s been frustrating to lose all the elements that I’ve worked so hard on the past decade or so.
Elements that used to feel “automatic” have been labored, and it wasn’t uncommon for me to suddenly lose my balance while gliding. I’ve spent a good amount of time working on each element to start to get the feel for them, even though my ankles felt like they were being tortured in the new boots.
However, I recently made some decent progress. I traveled to Delaware and got to practice at the Skating Club of Wilmington, where these videos were taken. I filmed two axels and a change foot sit spin, and they almost started feeling normal again.
Hopefully, these historically “easy” elements for me will start to feel easy again. I’m so impatient that I just want it to happen right now!
