Proud Coaching Moment
Over the years, I’ve taught private skating lessons to a few students. Because I work full time and skate for myself, I don’t have a lot of availability to teach others. Most of my students have taken lessons just for fun, or for the intention of wanting to compete. It wasn’t until recently that some of them expressed interest in testing through the US Figure Skating structure.
In fact, three of my students all wanted to work on the Adult Pre-Bronze Skating Skills tests. And so we got to work. Every lesson, we’ve spent time tweaking and adjusting technique with the intention on passing the test.
Finally, one of my students was ready to take her test. We filmed the test to submit it virtually (for those of you who aren’t aware, skaters have the option to take tests either in-person or virtually). I eagerly awaited her results, knowing that it would take about a week for us to receive notification.
While I was on spring break, I finally received the email notifying me that my student had passed! Of the three judges who reviewed her video, one gave her a pass with Honors (the highest distinction for this particular exam) while the other two gave her a “regular” passing grade.
I am so happy to see my student succeed and am thrilled that I was able to play a small part in getting her there. She did the hard work – I simply gave her the blueprints for success.
Now that the Adult Pre-Bronze skating skills test is behind us, we can focus on the next level!
