New Years Invitational (Part 2)

After my free skate event was over, we had several hours to kill before my bestie had to skate in another event. We went to the hotel, relaxed a bit, and then grabbed some food (yummy Thai food!). Then we headed to the rink.
She skated great (earned 2nd while “skating up” a level against some amazing athletes)! Then she had a quick change before our trio event. In previous years, there were several groups entered in this event, but for this year, we only had one competitor. It was a duo of two Masters level skaters who have clean double jumps. Gulp.

We were second to skate, and we got to watch the duo perform before us. They skated beautifully – with long extensions, deep edges, and a deep connection to their music. They were SKATING.
Then it was our turn. We upped the silliness and acted goofy for the entire 2 minutes and 10 seconds of our ice time. K and I made sure to make plenty of eye contact with the judges and to overexaggerate our facial expressions. Something must have worked because we won our event. Three of the judges placed us in first, and two of them placed us in second.

The videographer came up to us after the event and told us that we made her day. Several other skaters also told us how happy this program made them. Even one judge (who we know) asked if we had won.
I’m incredibly happy that this silly little program brought smiles and laughter to so many people!
