Rink #45 – Las Vegas Ice Center

Last month, I flew to Las Vegas for a work event. Naturally, I brought my ice skates and was debating which rink I wanted to visit. I’ve heard that City National Area was quite beautiful, but it was about 30 minutes from where I was staying. Plus, their freestyle times didn’t work that well with my schedule. The other option was Las Vegas Ice Center, which is where I ended up going. This was the 45th rink where I have skated (and counting!).
I went to the earliest freestyle session (yes, that clock behind me says 5:33am!!) so that I could get back to my hotel, shower, and get ready for my day. I warmed up with some of the moves from the Junior skating skills test and had the ice to myself.
Another adult skater walked in about 10 minutes into my session and I said hello. His coach arrived shortly thereafter and introduced me. His name sounded familiar, and I remembered that he was the husband of one of my skating friends from many years ago! She is a former adult national champion (she won the Gold Ladies title) and eventually moved west to Las Vegas.
I told the husband/coach that his wife is a beautiful skater, and I was sad to miss her. He asked if I would be around later that afternoon to skate, and I was sad to say no. I was only in town visiting and the morning skate was the only session I had signed up for.
The skating community is very small, and it was great running into a friendly face and meeting a new friend!
It sounds like a great experience skating in LV!

Yes – it was so fun, despite the early practice time!
