T-Minus One Month

Sometime last month, I had the bright idea (sarcasm) to enter two competitions in September. I likely hit my head at the time or wasn’t thinking very clearly. The first one is during the first full week in September, and it’s out of state. I entered that particular competition because it was being held at the same rink as Eastern Sectionals next spring. Essentially, I wanted to get a sneak preview of that rink so that I could get used to the ice and not be surprised when I head there in March. The other competition is being held at my home rink, so it will be a good practice.
My goal for these two competitions is to get a baseline score under my belt. This will be the debut of my program with the revamped choreography, so I am curious to see how it scores. Will the judges like it? Will I be able to execute it on tired legs? Or will I be huffing and puffing through the whole thing?
So far, my practices have been going OK. I need to clean a few things up, but otherwise, I am happy with where I am so far. I don’t want to peak too early in the season, but I also want to perform well.
Here are my specific goals for these two competitions:
- Execute the correct choreography
- Emote
- Land all clean jumps and deliver on my spins
- Stay confident and believe in my ability
Of course, I’d love to have a decent score, but that’s not within my control. I can only control what I can personally do, and telling the judges what to give me is definitely not one of those things! I’m trying to get better about not being results-focused, so yay for progress!
