Feedback from a National Tech Specialist (part 2)

I’m back again with another spin and some more analysis from the national technical specialist.

This is designed as a level 3 change foot combination spin. I tried holding one of the features a little bit longer (8 revolutions) to see if I could aim for a level 4 spin. Yes, I know that the maximum I can earn in my level is a level 3 spin, but it’s fun to try.

Here are the features that I was aiming for: 1) 3 windmills, 2) twisted back sit spin (a “sit forward” variation), 3) headless spin (difficult variation of an upright spin), 4) 8 revolutions in the headless spin

And this is what he had to say:

  • Camel and windmill were OK
  • Sit forward with twist was nice
  • Headless is minimal so it’s a 50% chance of getting called

So what I’ve learned with this spin is that I need to make the headless more prominent and tilt my head back farther. Ideally, my head should be parallel to the ice, and I think mine is slightly too vertical. I’ll have to keep working on this!

One more spin to go, which I will share next week!
