Mini Split Twist
My pairs partner and I have not been able to practice at 100% lately. I’ve been traveling for work and he had had a foot injury. The things that we are able to work on together have been limited. We’ve stayed away from anything that requires him to pick in with his injured foot, so there isn’t a lot we can do during our sparse practices.
After watching the live stream of Adult Nationals this year (so much great skating!!), I noticed that at least one pairs team attempted a single split twist. I happened to be able to video that element and watch it on replay. After watching a few other internet videos on this element, I was convinced that we would be able to pull this off at some point.
We worked on this off-ice and tried it for the first time on ice recently. I need to get more horizontal and eventually let go (nooooo!) during the throw part, but maybe after some more practice, I’ll gain enough confidence to get there.
And yes, we are still coach-less. So this is an attempt after coaching ourselves and watching lots of YouTube and Instagram.
Wow, that looks greatโnice height and air position!

Yay! Thank you!
Hi Eva. Nice work on the pairs element. I just read the USFSA article about you showing your pride in your Asian heritage. Terrible about your old boss holding you back due to racism. I hope your newer job is better– sounds like it is. I’m proud of you for embracing your Asian-ness and sharing the journey through the article.
