Rollerblading in Hawaii

Because the ice rink on Oahu has been closed since 2020 (sigh), I was unable to skate during our recent trip to Hawaii. Instead, I brought my new inline skates and tried to find a suitable place to practice.

Sadly, it took until the last week of our stay before I found a smooth surface. I found some tennis courts and this (racquetball?) court near our rental house. It was on a slight inline, so my wheels kept gliding downhill.

The scariest part about my adventure on wheels wasn’t the actual skating, but the journey to walk/skate to the court. I parked a little bit away from the court and stupidly thought that it would be a great idea to skate over to the court. You know, to get some extra practice in. Little did I know that the path to get from my car to the racquetball court was full of tiny pebbles.

If you’ve roller skated before, you know that little pebbles can mean an imminent death. I was so scared of falling that I tip-toed my way across the walking path and STILL almost died doing it. The smarter thing would have been to put on my roller blades once I got to the court, but I was not that smart on that particular day.

Fortunately, I did not fall or need a trip to the hospital but I did manage some mini crossovers (forwards and backwards) and this mini waltz jump. I almost fell on a two-foot spin attempt and thought that I would need a stretcher after I attempted a three turn (those things are EVIL on wheels!).

I’m just glad that I lived to show you this video!

Haha – thanks, Jo. Inline skating is SO HARD. I’m deathly terrified of falling!
