Skating Fridays

Adding to My Repertoire?

For the past few weeks, I’ve been landing double salchows on the quarter (which would result in a ‘q’ on a protocol sheet) or slightly under (clean). This is the most exciting news because I’ve been training this element for 2+ years. I am hoping that this jump continues to get stronger and that I can eventually include it in a future program. I’d love to be able to attempt one during competition.

What’s really strange is the mental hurdle I still have on this jump. I have found that when I wear my butt pads, I have trouble rotating the jump. It makes me feel wider, so my rotational axis feels bigger than it should. When I don’t wear the butt pads, I have an easier time rotating.

Yes, it’s a mental thing, and I need to disassociate my butt pad with success vs. failure. I am going to try to keep skating without the pad to see if the jump stays consistent. After all, I can’t compete with it on, so I might as well get used to skating this element without any padding!

Looking good, Eva! Love the speed and flow that you carry into and through this jump!
