An Early Christmas Present

Eva at rink #37

My in-laws got a brand new sports facility about 10 minutes from their house in the Midwest. This gigantic complex is home to many sports – basketball, soccer, pickleball, baseball, softball, football, volleyball, rugby, and of course hockey and ice skating. In fact, it has TWO sheets of ice!

Since it was so close to their house, my in-laws encouraged me to bring my skates and try out the new facility. I called ahead and made sure that the rink was open and allowed visitors. I happily visited and was excited to try out the ice (at my 37th rink – whoo hoo!).

Luckily, there were only 5 people on the ice, including myself and a coach. I was the highest level skater there, which doesn’t say much! I ran some field moves, chunks of my program, some spins, and then I tried some double salchows for fun. I didn’t have my butt pad on so I wasn’t sure what would happen.

Lo and behold, when I filmed my attempts, I noticed that I had two that were just barely clean. Obviously, these still need a lot of work (and lack consistency) but I was so happy that Christmas came early! I hadn’t landed a clean one of these since August so it was a nice gift to myself!

Looking good on that landing! And it’s always great to hear about new rinks–especially in the Midwest!

I hope to land these more consistently. Maybe 2022 will be the year it becomes part of my repertoire 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
