Virtual Testing – Silver Pairs

Silver pairs test
Photo of my partner and I from our first test attempt last week (the video we did not turn in since it didn’t meet the requirements)

It’s been an interesting week around here. My pairs partner and I have been ready to test our Silver Pairs for a while. Unfortunately, our rink isn’t holding a test session until December. Our sister rink was supposed to host one in September/October, but they are redoing the ice surface there and it’s taking a lot longer than anticipated. In fact, the test session at the sister rink is very unlikely to happen, so that would mean we would have to wait until December to test in-person.

As a result, I did a quick search for other local test sessions, and I found one nearby that was offering a virtual test session. I haven’t done one of these before, but it was a rolling test session for the entire month of September. That means that we have until the end of the month to send in our videos for the judges to review.

My partner and I agreed to try this out last Thursday and then attempted our test on Friday afternoon. We scrambled to find a videographer, music player and a proctor. All was good. We ran the program twice and filmed both attempts.

After we reviewed our video, we realized that we failed to capture the date and time stamp from a cell phone in the beginning. Therefore, if we had turned this test in, it would have been disqualified for not meeting the requirements. Unfortunately, this meant that my partner and I would have to re-film our test again another time.

Due to work schedules, life, and other priorities, we had to delay the re-film a full week. That means that we are doing the test again today. I’ll keep you posted on how this second attempt goes.

Please send good vibes!
