Not a Fluke

You know how sometimes you learn a new thing and think you’ve got it? And then the next day it disappears? Well, that happened to me the first time I landed a clean (but ugly) double salchow in 2019. I was so excited that I was in the “tweaking” phase of the jump that it disappeared completely for 2+ years.

Week in and week out, I’ve been trying new things to get that jump back. Nothing seemed to work.

I shared with you last week that my coach gave me a new mind trick to help me think about this jump as a completely new element. Rather than think of this as a double salchow, I think of it as a backward 3-turn forward rocker jump. I landed one a few days after my lesson and hoped it wasn’t a fluke.

It wasn’t.

I landed a few more clean ones after my next lesson and even the next day. This mind trickery is definitely working for this element. I’m hopeful that this jump stays in my arsenal so I can possibly include it in a program some day. But for now, I’ll take it!

Here it is!

That’s amazing Eva. I can’t seem to visualize how a backward 3 turn rocker corresponds to a salchow but it’s awesome that that is working for you. Congrats!

Thank you, Rebecca! I just have a strange mind blip – when I think “double,” I freak out and forget how to do anything. When I think “rocker jump,” it’s not as scary. 😄
