Novice Moves – Backward Outside Twizzles
There are two elements in figure skating that give me a TON of trouble. One are chocktaws (or S-curves) and the other are twizzles. For some reason, my blades do not want to turn correctly. My body tries to spin them, and as a result, I end up on my toe pick.
My coach gave me a suggestion that would help lift my core and get me on the correct part of my blade. She told me to put my arms up in the air. Surprisingly, that tip has helped immensely. I typically don’t have much trouble on the clockwise rotation (since that is my spin direction), but I have a heck of a time going counter clockwise. I usually hold my breath and hope that I don’t trip and fall.
Here is a quick video to see how they are coming along. I’m the one in the far side of the rink with the bluish/teal jacket on. I eventually make my way towards the camera.
Those are looking good, Eva! I admire your speed!

Thanks, Jo! I wish they weren’t so hard. I keep holding my breath on them. Haha!
That looks quite hard, Eva, and you’re doing well on them. I’m still back on the twizzle pattern in Intermediate Moves.

Those twizzles from Intermediate moved gave me so much trouble! I’m sure you will get the hang of them soon!
