Our First Pairs Camel Spin
My pairs partner and I began our collaboration a few years ago. Neither one of us had ever skated pairs before, so we had no idea what was going on.
When we first started, the coach had us try a pairs camel spin. Bad idea, since we were already fumbling around and couldn’t skate in unison. Needless to say, that attempt was an epic fail, and we did not try it again. Until now.
We’ve been playing around with a Kilian-style dance hold on spins, and it was going pretty well. Just for fun, we decided to try a camel spin. Since the public session we attended didn’t have many people, we attempted to actually lift our legs up into a real camel position (camel spins are prohibited when there are 10+ people on ice; this is for fear of hitting them with our blades).
I’d say that this isn’t too bad, considering it is the first time we’ve actually done something that resembles a camel spin. Obviously we have our work cut out for us, but it’s got promise!
Hey, not bad! Those pair spins are soooo hard! It’s great that you are having fun together.

This is one of the hardest things we’ve tried! Maybe one day we’ll have enough speed to do a real pairs camel spin. 😀
