Birthday Double Salchow Attempt

For my birthday earlier this month, I took the day off. My friend K and I drove to take a lesson from a World and Olympic coach.

We worked on jump drills for axel, loop and salchow. The focus of the day was to get our legs in as tight as possible (for the purpose of getting ready for multi-rotation jumps).

Towards the end of the lesson, the coach put me in a pole harness so we could try a double salchow. The first were attempts were laughable at best. K did capture this one on video that was fully rotated, but I was unable to save the landing. It’s probably because I was fully backwards and my body didn’t know how to handle that (I typically land forwards or 90 degrees short of a clean landing).

I’m excited that I’m starting to make more progress on this jump again. I had hoped to land a clean one by my birthday but sadly that did not happen. Oh well – I had a great birthday lesson regardless!

Eva, I was impressed by the height on that jump. It probably threw your timing off to have such height. Looked tight in the air too! So exciting to see this progress!

I can’t wait to finally land a clean one, Jo. Hopefully it will come soon!

Isn’t that the way? When your leg doesn’t expect that it’s going to have to hold you up so it just crumbles? Nice that you were fully rotated though! And very nice that you can still skate. I wasn’t skating anyway, but the rinks are closed here now.

Oh no! I didn’t know your rinks were closed. Did they open briefly or have they been closed the whole time? Have you been able to do any off-ice training at all?
