Online Webinar – Tim Goebel

Tim Goebel webinar

Although my rink isn’t open yet,  I’ve been finding other ways to stay active. I’ve been doing some stretching videos (which I will share with you. soon) and attending online webinars. I was browsing my social media channels one day and saw that Tim Goebel, our 2002 Olympic bronze medalist, was offering an off-ice jumping class. I loved watching Tim during the Olympics so I signed myself up for his class.

I remember in 2002, the internet was just starting to become more popular. At the time, the US Olympic Committee allowed fans to write notes of encouragement to our Olympic athletes via their website. Since I was a skater, I chose to write a note to Tim Goebel. Although he didn’t write me back, I was still thrilled to be able to connect with him virtually.

And now, 18 years later, here I was – doing an online webinar with him! Tim gave us some warmup exercises. to loosen our muscles. Thirty minutes into the 50 minute webinar, we were still warming up. By the time the class was done, all we had executed were warmup exercises. I was disappointed that we did no off-ice jumping as the class advertised. After all, I signed up to do a jump class with the original “quad king.”

However, Tim’s class was well done, and. I was certainly warmed up after 50 minutes. I enjoyed his exercises to help us build strength and mobility. But, I was still sad that it wasn’t a jump class.

All in all, I’m happy that I was able to connect with Tim and take part in his virtual seminar. Hopefully he will offer a real jump class soon because I’d love to be able to learn from the master!

He’s quite the jumper, so I’m sure he would have offered some great advice! Still, it sounds like the warmups were helpful and since we may be “warming up” for a while longer off the ice, this makes perfect sense. Thanks for continuing to share your video wisdom with us, Eva!

Thankfully, the warmups weren’t too different from what I’ve been doing on my own so I was able to hang with the younger kids. Rinks here are still closed with no end in sight (yet). Hope you are well, Jo!

Glad you found something skating-related to do, sorry it wasn’t more inspiring jump-wise.

Oh well – it was still good to learn from him and what warmup exercises are beneficial!
