Pairs Upright Spin Progress
It’s been a while since I last posted a pairs skating video. Well, I have a good reason. I’ve barely had the opportunity to practice with my partner! If we are lucky, we get to skate together once a month (twice if the stars align).
Shortly after New Year, my pairs partner and I found some time during an extremely busy public session to work on a few elements. We tried our pairs spin (which we’ve lovingly named “The Death Grip” since we cling to each other like our lives depend on it). Surprisingly, it wasn’t half bad. Then we tried letting go of one arm to see what would happen.
And what do you know? This isn’t half bad!
What we’ve learned is that the less we practice together, the better off our elements are. Strange, isn’t it? If we can continue to find time to skate together, then we may try to piecemeal a program together for the season. We’ll see!
Love the little dance before the spin, too! Looks like you guys are having so much fun out there!

We don’t take ourselves too seriously so there is always a lot of laughter during practice. That’s what makes pairs skating so fun!
That does not look like you are only skating together once a month! I hope you get to do a program together this season.

I hope so too, Mary! It’s so hard to coordinate times with a partner!
