New Camel Spin Variation
I don’t know about you all, but camel spins are HARD. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I had a “competition camel” where my spin didn’t end up counting. Yup, that means that I got a big fat ZERO on that spin element.
Fast forward to this year. With my new spins coach, I’ve been able to do some spins that I would never have dreamed about. My coach has had me trying a camel/side variation. I thought that this one went pretty well:
But according to my coach, this wouldn’t count because I don’t have enough of a core change. Sigh.
I’ll keep working on it and see if there’s another variation that might work better!
At least you have a nice camel! Good luck finding a variation that works for you. I am still struggling with a basic camel. I don’t lower my upper body enough and don’t know how to make myself do it. My leg would just be high enough if I would lower my upper body. Hope you figure it out!
P.S. I’m making Funfetti no-bake bars next week; love that recipe!

Hooray for Funfetti no-bake bars! I struggled with a basic camel for YEARS. Once I switched to my current spin coach, things have improved dramatically. Are you a subscriber to icoachskating? If so, I can point you to a few videos.
I don’t subscribe to icoachskating, unfortunately. My coach told me to work on my spiral position, to the point I feel like I am going to faceplant. I’ve done that fairly successfully (without the actual faceplant), so now she said to try to replicate that feeling in the camel. So I will try…feeling like I am going to faceplant is very uncomfortable!

Yeah – I’ve faceplanted on a spiral once and knocked all the wind out of me! Are you going into the spin with a “table sweeping” motion or a different entry? I used to “clear the table” but noticed that my camels were very inconsistent. Ever since switching to the new technique, my camels have been super consistent.
Oooh, nice position! It’s been fun watching you make progress on your camel spin. The entry edge and speed are really very consistent now, and putting in those interesting variations must feel like the icing on the cake!

My entry edge is actually still pretty bad. I stand up too early and am constantly reminded of that! My speed would improve if I could just stay down in the knee for a liiiiiitle but longer. But thank you – this spin has definitely improved a thousand fold!
