ISU Adult Competition Recap (Part 1)

Happy Friday! Earlier this month, my friends and I traveled to Alexandria, VA to compete in the ISU international adult figure skating competition. The last time I competed in this series was in 2023 when Nashville hosted it.

As I prepared to skate at my 51st rink (!), I felt good. I was calm, collected, and ready to attack my program. My legs, however, had a different game plan in mind. The day before I competed, I told my coach that I needed to take it easy. I wanted to be able to skate on fresh legs and maintain my stamina for the big day.
She must have had earplugs in or something because she made me run my program. Granted, she had me break it up into thirds, but we still went at 100% with each attempt. Needless to say, my legs were tight, tired, and did not want to cooperate.

Unfortunately, two of my spins were dashed (they received no credit), and my second axel was underrotated and received no value. Sigh. The women who placed under me in the final rankings also got their spins dashed, so it wasn’t just me. I guess I’m just not good at competing under ISU rules. At least not yet. I ended up in 6th place out of 9 skaters.

Regardless of the outcome, I still had a blast (see me almost getting eaten by a shark above – haha!). I made new memories with current friends, and I got to meet and cheer on new friends. I’m going to alter my program for the remainder of the season so that I can maximize points and not get any more dashes!

Thanks to everyone who came to cheer me on!
I know you worked very hard to do well. Sometimes, things just don’t go our way when we compete. You look fabulous and things will go better next time. Keep up the great effort.

Thank you! ❤️
I think you might have been at my home rink–wish I could have watched you! Good luck with your program at the next skate.
